High Intensity CBT Therapist and Integrative Psychotherapist
Collaborative Therapy. Honest Conversations. Lasting Change. About me Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You may know that something isn't quite right, but not know what needs to change or where to begin. I'm George, a High Intensity CBT Therapist and Integrative Psychotherapist. My approach is straightforward: I don't see therapy as something I do to you; it's a process we do together. I believe the most useful therapy is collaborative. You bring your experience, perspective and goals; I bring my training and an outside perspective. Together, we work out what is keeping you stuck and what might help you move forward. I'm not a therapist who will simply agree with everything you say, nor am I there to lecture you or tell you how to live your life. I'm honest and open and if I think there is something worth exploring, a pattern you may not be seeing, or something you're avoiding, I'll say so, respectfully and with you, rather than at you. My aim isn't for you to become dependent on therapy or on me. I want to help you understand yourself better and become your own therapist, developing skills and ways of thinking that you can continue to use long after our sessions have finished. How I work I'm trained in CBT, Psychodynamic therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Transactional Analysis. Being integrative means I can adjust the work to meet your specific needs, rather than you having to meet mine. After all, it's your process. Sometimes you need practical tools to deal with anxiety, difficult thoughts or behaviours. Sometimes it is more useful to understand where a pattern has come from, or see things from a different perspective. We'll work out together what is most useful for you. I'm more directive in my approach, but I won't simply give you instructions and expect you to follow them. I'll teach you theory, help you understand why something is happening and help you experiment with different ways of responding. The aim is to develop your ability to work things out for yourself. What you can expect from me You can expect me to listen carefully, take you seriously and treat you with respect. You can also expect me to be honest. Therapy isn't always comfortable and progress can mean looking at things we'd rather avoid. If I think something is important, I'll tell you. If I think you might be looking at a situation from an unhelpful perspective, we'll explore it. And if I get something wrong, I expect you to tell me that too. There is room for warmth and humour in the work. Therapy doesn't have to be relentlessly serious and I want our sessions to feel human rather than clinical. Ultimately, the goal isn't simply to feel better while you're in therapy. It's to understand yourself better and become better equipped to handle life when you're not. Who I work with I support individual adults and I have particular experience working with people caught in cycles of worry, avoidance, reassurance-seeking, overthinking or self-criticism, especially when they understand intellectually that their way of responding isn't helping but find it difficult to change. Whether you're looking for short-term, focused CBT work or deeper exploration, we'll tailor the approach together. Taking the first step You don't need to have everything figured out before contacting me. That's partly what therapy is for. I offer a free 15-minute telephone or video consultation to talk informally about what you're looking for, answer questions and see whether we're a good fit. I work remotely only and currently work with individuals rather than couples. If you think I might be the right person to work with, get in touch. We can start from there.
