Laura Howard

Integrative Counsellor Psychotherapist

Compassionate and trauma aware therapist, guiding you towards growth and emotional wellbeing My name is Laura, and I am a fully qualified, insured integrative therapist and a registered member of the BACP. Having trained in both Psychodynamic and Humanistic models, I blend these approaches to offer a warm, empathic, and tailored space where you can safely explore whatever you are facing. My counselling journey began in 2015 when I started my training in Psychodynamic counselling, completing my first Diploma at the Counselling Foundation in St Albans in 2018. The following year, I completed a second Diploma in Gestalt (Humanistic) therapy at The Albany Centre. In 2019, I established my private practice, offering both online and face-to-face sessions to clients aged from 14+ including older clients for a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. In 2022, I completed specialised training in Adoption Support Counselling - a course launched by The Albany Centre in partnership with Barnardo's. This training enables me to support anyone affected by adoption, whether as an adopted individual, a birth parent, or an adoptive family member. Throughout my career, I have gained a wealth of experience supporting children and young people, particularly in navigating the lasting emotional impacts and unique difficulties brought on by the pandemic. Always looking for new ways to support my clients, I am currently expanding my practice into art therapy, incorporating creative mediums to offer a gentle alternative for those who find it difficult to articulate their feelings and experiences verbally. I pride myself on being a warm, empathic, and approachable counsellor who is deeply dedicated to treating every client with the utmost respect. I truly believe that with calmness comes clarity, and I strive to create a peaceful, grounding space where you feel safe to explore your inner world. I hold a Certificate in Adoption Support Counselling and helped develop a national online course in this specialist area. This allows me to work therapeutically with birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptees, and extended family members. Additionally, I have a wealth of experience supporting children and young people, particularly in navigating the lasting emotional impacts and challenges that the pandemic brought to their lives. I have had the privilege in being able to work with a variety of clients from a range of backgrounds with differing issues. I have had experience in working with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, identity issues, relationship issues, gender dysphoria, eating disorders, sexuality, self harm, suicidal ideation and work related bullying. I have had the privilege of working with clients from a diverse range of racial and ethnic backgrounds, as well as supporting neurodivergent individuals navigating a world not always built for them. Additionally, I have worked extensively with individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, holding a particular specialisation in supporting trans adolescents as they navigate identity and growth.
