When a career decision feels personal
Changing jobs or direction can raise questions about identity, security and what you want from everyday life. You might feel drawn to a new field but worried about income, or want to leave a role without knowing whether burnout is affecting the decision. Therapy can help you explore the emotional side without telling you which job to take.
Values and practical realities
For example, you may value meaningful work but rely on your current salary. A session could help separate fear of change, exhaustion and longer-term priorities. It cannot calculate the financial consequences of resigning or establish which qualifications a new career requires.
Therapy versus careers advice
A careers adviser can help research roles, training and job-market options; a regulated financial adviser may be needed for financial decisions. Therapy is more likely to focus on confidence, uncertainty, stress and patterns of decision-making. These forms of support can complement one another.
Taking a manageable next step
You might decide to have an informational conversation, review your workload or explore what a realistic transition would require. The goal is not to force a bold leap. If a role is ending involuntarily, our Redundancy page addresses that different experience.
Choosing an independent therapist
Read each therapist’s profile and ask about relevant experience, professional registration, confidentiality, online session arrangements and fees. A listed specialism is not a guarantee of particular clinical training or suitability. You can ask questions before booking, and the therapist should explain when a different service may be more appropriate.
Related support and urgent help
For related perspectives, you can also explore our pages on redundancy and workplace stress. Veyro is not an emergency service. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent medical help that is not an emergency, contact your GP or local urgent-care service. In Northern Ireland, contact your GP out-of-hours service when your surgery is closed.
