When autism and ADHD overlap
Wanting a predictable routine while finding it hard to maintain one can be frustrating. Some people who are autistic and have ADHD describe that tension; others experience the combination very differently. 'AuDHD' is an informal shorthand for co-occurring autism and ADHD, not a separate formal diagnosis.
Everyday pressures can pull in different directions
A person may seek stimulation but become overwhelmed by sensory input, or plan carefully yet struggle to start a task. Masking, burnout, changes in routine and relationships may add pressure. These experiences are not universal, and they cannot confirm a diagnosis on their own.
What neurodiversity-affirming therapy can offer
Therapy might explore stress, self-understanding, identity, boundaries and practical accommodations. A therapist should listen to how you describe your needs rather than assuming that one technique suits everyone. Ask about experience with both autism and ADHD and whether sessions can include written questions, breaks or a predictable structure.
Assessment and other support
Counselling is not the same as a diagnostic assessment or medication review. If you want a formal assessment or advice about ADHD medication, speak with an appropriate healthcare professional. Therapy can still be useful without a new diagnosis.
Choosing an independent therapist
Read each therapist’s profile and ask about relevant experience, professional registration, confidentiality, online session arrangements and fees. A listed specialism is not a guarantee of particular clinical training or suitability. You can ask questions before booking, and the therapist should explain when a different service may be more appropriate.

For urgent medical help that is not an emergency, contact your GP or local urgent-care service. In Northern Ireland, contact your GP out-of-hours service when your surgery is closed.

Can someone be autistic and have ADHD?

Can therapy treat AuDHD?
Therapy may support wellbeing and coping but does not cure either neurodevelopmental condition.
Do I need a diagnosis to seek support?
Not necessarily for general mental health support.
Can sessions be adapted for sensory needs?
You can ask about communication, sensory and scheduling adjustments.
Can therapy help with burnout?
Support may help explore stress and recovery needs.
Can a Veyro therapist diagnose me?
Do not assume so; formal assessments require appropriately qualified clinicians and services.
